First band Jim took to Renfro ValleyJim Gaskin is an amazing man when it comes to musical talent. He began his career in music at an early age and has continued to grow as a musician and expand his many talents throughout the years.

'Fiddlin' Jim' is a graduate of Russell County High School, in Russell Springs, Kentucky. He received a full music scholarship to Lindsey Wilson College and graduated with an AA Degree in Music. Later, Jim received training from the Cleveland Institute of Radio/Electronics and Professional Academy of Broadcasting. He has since received a first class license from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and an Honorary Doctorate in Music from St. Andrew's in London, England.

His love for the business has pushed him ever forward over the years. Musician, singer, composer, singwriter, producer, MC: Jim Gaskin has done it all in his 50 years in the music industry. He has combined music with radio, television, horse shows, and rodeos. He has performed everything from old time medicine shows and old style fiddle bands, to the Country, Western, Blue Grass, and Gospel of today. With experience in so many genres of the music industry, he is still going strong, performing more than 200 shows per year.

FiddleAs with every great entertainer, Jim has his instrument of choice: the fiddle. Having won several championships with the fiddle in his youth, He always comes back to his love for this instrument. However, his musical talent does not end there. Jim is skilled in various other instruments including the guitar, autoharp, bass fiddle, and many others.

He has given instrumental and vocal performances around the country. A veteran in Folk and Mountain music festivals, Jim has also given concerts and lectures at universities and colleges around the country.

Jim also has a wide array of vocal abilities. These abilities have allowed him to perform solos, as well as more bass oriented singing parts such as gospel and old barber quartet singing. He has masterfully created hundreds of songs and poems throughout his life. He is an immensely accredited recording artist and holds his own recording label, JIMANN Music.

Fiddlin' Jim performs regularly at the great Renfro Valley Jim and Old Joe Clarkwhere he has the role of writer, narrator, and co-producer of the nationally syndicated weekly radio broadcast "The Renfro Valley Gatherin'." This year marks the 50th year Jim Gaskin has been in the music industry. He has been associated with some of the biggest pioneers in the industry including such greats as Burnett & Rutherford, Asa Martin, John Lair, Bill Monroe, Carl Story, Jimmie Skinner, Tex Ritter, and the late, great, 'Old Joe' Clark.

Jim Gaskin has touched many lives and has made a vast impact on everyone who has listened to his music or had the pleasure of meeting him. Jim would like to thank his friends and family members for the support they have given him throughout the years. About his life's work, he states, "Whatever talent I have, God gave it to me and I am grateful.  I've been able to make a living doing what I love to do. I give all the Praise and Glory to the Lord."
